A morning at Midhope

What a glorious morning at Midhope Castle on the Hopetoun Estate. I was just dropping off some of my tote bags to be sold there but the sun was out and they now have a wonderful coffee van (Coffee n Stuff) so what choice did I have but to sit in the sunshine and sketch for an hour :)

Midhope features in the award winning and very popular TV series Outlander, from the Diana Gabaldan series of books of the same name. Since then there has been a steady stream of fans visiting to see where main character Jamie Fraser grew up. I teamed up with tour company Mary’s Meanders many moons ago to create a book of Outlander locations, one of which was Midhope. I sketched the locations and Mary’s Meanders wrote the words.

It is always nice to go back and see the castle along a dirt track which looks like it hasn’t been touched for hundreds of years. But I couldn’t stay there all day, I had to get back to commissions in the studio but I was glad a stopped to paint this picture in the sunshine.

Best get back to my commissions now. But you never know how long the sunshine’s gonna last right?!
