An August to remember
After a little break to clear my head I look back on the festival and a busy August.
Welcome to my monthly round up from EdinburghSketcher. I had a ball at this year’s festival and saw some wonderful acts, I feel lucky to have this coming together of international talent right on my doorstep.
I was a little more organised in the first week than in previous years when sometimes the month of august flies by and the closing weekend is upon us before I have stepped foot in a tent. This year much better and within the first week I had seen beautiful dance from Grupo Corpo at the Playhouse, circus skills at the Spiegeltent Palais du Variété from Casus Creations and plenty of awe inspiring street entertainers.
I love seeing the streets full of tourists and eager performers, the hectic business and the excitement that is in the air. Sure it can take a little longer to get through town but it is over in an instant and the happy vibe lives on much longer.
Thanks to the Edinburgh International Festival I witnessed some moving performances, most notably the shocking true story of Fire In My Mouth which was brought to life so superbly by the National Youth Choir and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The festival for me is also about seeing the unexpected and one show which lit up the festival for me was Please Right Back which combined acting with film and illustration in a way I hadn’t seen before.
I know the performers and many of the visitors have left and the city has taken a huge sigh of relief but for me I am already looking forward to the beginning of August 2025!
