A few months ago I was asked to create a colourful sketch for the first ever tartan parade due to wind its way through the city on the 10th May 2025.
As it was the first there are no photos from previous years, just the route it will take a huge list of colourful participants to squeeze into the drawing. Once I knew the procession would be coming down Cockburn street I took some photos looking up from the Market Street end and set about designing a way of including many of the various acts taking part.
The result is a riot of colour and energy and I am hoping for more of the same this Saturday in Edinburgh.
There will be Highland dancers, pipe bands and Vikings plus a couple of dragons taking part in this vibrant celebration of Scottish history. The parade will start not the Royal Mile around midday and lead down to a huge ceilidh in Princes Street Gardens.
I hope to see you there and remember to wear a little (or a lot!) of tartan.
I fell in love with Edinburgh many years ago, and it happens all over again with each of your sketches. But this one ... oh my ... it's splendid! You sketch is joy in tartans! Thanks!
