Scribbling with a pencil tonight. Not my usual implement of choice but I am enjoying these Derwent sketching pencils recently for drawing up ideas and creating compositions. Not as messy as charcoal pencils but more tones and range than a regular pencil.
This is Whiskers our tuxedo cat chilling out and looking up at me. Drawn from a quick photo I scribbled the dark and smudged the light. I love zooming in on a sketch too to really see the marks I’ve made.
You may not know but I made a book of cat sketches a couple of years ago after we lost our beloved torty cat Mocha after 21 years of a full life. As a distraction to the grief of such a loss I started drawing cats every day and made it to 100 in 100 days. It was a great release of emotion and mans a great deal that I managed to make it into a published book and gallery exhibition with the help of a KickStarter campaign. I will always be great full for all those who backed that project. You can read more and purchase a book via the link to my shop below.
