A wonderful walk up Arthur’s Seat this afternoon in the glorious Edinburgh sunshine. Amazing views from the top including this one from where we sat for a short break, and chocolate boost before heading up the last part of the climb.
When asked what is the one thing a visitor to Edinburgh should do I always say climbing to the top of Arthur’s Seat. The view from the top shows how pretty is sitting between the water of the Forth and the rolling hills of the Pentlands.
I used to work at the Scotsman Newspaper and would often walk through Holyrood Park and up the thankfully extinct volcano as the office was very close. I also think that climbing high gives such a new perspective that it is a great way to get away from your daily problems and see things a little clearer.
Once back down on solid ground we had to say hello to our favourite tree which is just around the back of Holyroodhouse Abbey and on route to Abbeyhill. My wife and I both used to work at the newspaper and we would often park the car and walk around the edge of the park past this particular tree. It’s perfect shape caught both our eyes and I we would pass by in all seasons.
Do you have a favourite tree? I would love to know about it if so. They are a vital link to nature for me and have instant calming powers when I see them or walk beneath them.
