Live Sketching and ice cream favourites
See me live sketching at an evening of interior design in the New Town.
Hello and welcome to the weekly round up and also a look ahead to Friday when I will be live sketching at an event with Arienas Collective, and you could join us too.
I have been working on a few large pieces for a client and that has been taking my time away from drawing outside and it has been hard switching for quicker commissions to keep the pennies coming in, but also spending enough time on the bigger projects so that the enormity of the work doesn’t become overwhelming.
The key for me (as I do get distracted easily and also love working on quick sketches that fit my concentration time span!) is to complete chunks of work. I will do an hour or two of the big project each day and then get back to the emails and planning of workshops etc.
The commissions are getting there now and I am really pleased with how they are looking, another week and I should have a series of six large pieces I am really pleased with and proud of. It is also a good skill to be able to say I can also work on larger artworks as most of my work is A4 or under.
Keep chipping away at the big stuff but also combine it with a few quick distractions.
Live Sketching at Jimmy’s Takeover
This Friday afternoon and evening I will be at Arienas Collective sketching their one of event with Jimmy’s Homeware who source and sell mid-century and vintage homeware items that focus on great design and everyday practicality.
Owner Zoe Grayson-Weir will be making over the Arienas work space, setting up a pop-up shop to showcase their wares in a home setting. Think glassware, ceramics, mirrors, artworks, tableware and decorative objects, all lovingly sourced and curated.
Everything Zoe displays will be available for purchase and I will be there sketching the whole thing. There will also be wee introductory chats by Lynn and Zoe; and specially-selected mini-workshop demos so you can get a taste of the creative opportunities The Arienas Collective has to offer. All served up with complimentary bubbles and nibbles!
Spaces are limited to allow for an enjoyable shopping experience and you can book either an afternoon session from 1pm-4pm or an evening session from 5pm-8pm. Find out more and book a ticket for £5 (which can be redeemed against any purchase valued at £50 or more) via the link below, I hope to see you there.
Where is your favourite Ice Cream shop?
The weather may be awful outside but that may mean you are dreaming of a sunny trip to the seaside even more. And what better than an ice cream when walking along the shore.
You may remember a couple of years ago I collaborated with Edinburgh writer Scott Coull to create a children’s book, a love story to St Andrews and the ice cream parlour there called Jannetta’s Gelateria
The book (available throughout the seaside town and also on my Etsy shop for £6.99) is all about Lily Topping and her family who enjoy a lovely week by the seaside. Lily is desperate to get to Jannetta’s and try some of their ‘fifty flavours’ of ice cream, but she has to be patient until finally taking everyone to pick their favourite flavour on the final day.
You can buy my book which is great for reading to children and trying to decide what flavour you would pick, and also a very good guide of what to do if visiting St Andrews. Click on the link above to buy online.
Cast your vote…
If you are a fan of Jannetta's Gelateria too then cast them a vote as your favourite ice cream parlour by clicking on the link to a poll by the Courier newspaper.
And finally… There is still a few places on my sketching at Lauriston Castle sketching workshop this Thursday morning. To join me drawing in nature click HERE.
