Outlander finale on the horizon
The books and TV show from Diana Gabaldon have been a large part of my creative business over the years.
Back in 2017 thanks to a fund set up by Edinburgh World Heritage and ETAG (Edinburgh Tourism Action Group) which encouraged small businesses to collaborate on new projects I met tour company Mary’s Meanders. They specialise in private and bespoke tours around Scotland including Ancestry discoveries and Outlander journeys around the country.
We worked together to make a book of locations featured in the hit TV series which followed the Outlander books by author Diana Gabaldon. Emma and Anne from Mary’s Meanders took me on a tour of locations where I sketched and photographed and had a wonderful day cross crossing the nation.
Back in the studio I worked on the drawings while Anne and Emma worked on the accompanying words which cleverly described the real history of the site as well as the role it played in filming.
When we put it all together we had a beautiful little book highlighting ten locations around Scotland, a perfect keepsake for anyone who loves Scotland and the Outlander series. The ink and watercolour drawings were great for showing the old world style and helping imagine how these buildings would have looked in the 1700’s when the books are set.
It was a great learning curve learning to create and publish a book and I am very proud of it and thankful to Edinburgh World Heritage and ETAG for their help. Midhope and More now sells in many of the buildings featured thanks to Historic Scotland who sell them in their gift shops. Let me know if you see them while travelling around Scotland.
As well as the original book I also have these sketches available as prints and as a black and white screen printed tea towel. Have a look via the link below at my Outlander inspired creations and enjoy the final series on television.
