Colour of the Circus

CircusCafeWindowTonight’s sketch is a colourful number from a cafe on St Mary’s Street. I popped into ‘Circus’ for a cup of tea and sat near the rear of the bright and colourful bistro looking out over their lovely wee courtyard.

Unfortunately the sky was full of showers on the day but I imagine on another it would be a great little sun trap.

From the card I picked up on the way out I can see the cafe is full of activity; workshops, live music, art exhibitions and more. Pop in for a look and a bite to eat, and if the sun is shining I could well be sketching in the courtyard ๐Ÿ™‚

Kiss the fish

Has anyone been to this art and crafts studio nestling off the main street in Stockbridge? I first heard about it when my sister visited last year – she found it on t’internet and took her daughter, they raved about it afterwards. They had made and decorated a lovely giraffe together.

I passed at the weekend and had a look in but they were busy with a birthday party so I sketched this outside instead. I think my two are a little young just yet but definitely one for the future – I’m hoping the mums and dads can get messyย  too ๐Ÿ™‚

Click HERE for their website and next time your in Stockbridge seek them out and decorate something!

The sketch was done in pencil, in a n A5 pad.

Well done The Haven

Congratulations to Natalie Kwek and her Newhaven cafe, ‘The Haven’. Recently voted ‘The Place to Eat in Edinburgh’ on Tripadvisor above many Michelin star restaurants, this cosy cafe is the perfect place for a pot of tea and a piece of home made cake, or an all day breakfast.

Have a look at this video interview from STV Edinburgh HERE, and head down there too. EdinburghSketcher has a few sketches on the wall you may recognise but the one above is of Natalie herself, from one of my many visits.

Deer for lunch

I visited Loudons today for lunch with the family, I had some yummy gluten free mushroom soup. My wife had a lovely looking eggs benedict with gammon, I’ll be back for that myself. And the twins shared a vegetable pizza slice with salad. The coffee and cake were the highlights, GF again but delicious and worth the visit alone.

My only critisism is that it would of bean nice to of had some gluten free bread to go with my gluten free soup, or some rice cakes, oatcakes etc. Definitely worth the visit though, I’ll be back again soon I hope.

Oh and the deer on our table belong to my daughter.

Good to talk

A successful meeting today @FoodieCo today with @malcolm_stellar. Discussing illustrations both completed and to be started. I like these kind of meetings ๐Ÿ™‚ I was a little early and so had a few minutes to etch my surroundings, in Foodies Cafe, Holyrood.
I only had a coffee but I heard today more gluten free offerings will be available soon, cannot wait – I was starving!
