Clock tower no more

JamesGillespiesJames Gillespie’s High School held an open day today, it was the last chance for many to see the school in its current form before the bulldozers move in over the summer. Most of the buildings are being replaced this year and when I heard the clock tower would be going I thought I’d take the chance to sketch it before it is gone.

I wonder how many of my early sketches are still standing?

The School is named after a wealthy Edinburgh manufacturer of snuff and tobacco, James Gillespie (1726-1797) who left part of his vast fortune for the establishment of “a free school for the education of poor boys”.
