Location is West College Street, looking towards the (long closed) walkway between the Museum of Scotland and the Edinburgh Old College building, with Chambers Street visible behind.
Between the old college and museum. South College st down towards Chamber St
I walked down here every day for 4 years when I was at Uni back in the 80s. It’s just by the back entrance to the Old College in West College Street

That’s the wee lane between the museum and Ed Uni. The lane that the Talbot Rice is on!

Apparently they had to close up the passageway on the bridge as students were sneaking into the museum at night and having parties!
That looks like the lane down from Lothian street/Potterow to Chambers St going between the Old College buildings.
