Festival takeover incoming
July was a chance to complete commissions, plan ahead and escape for a few days.
July saw more weddings and in particular lots of wedding favours as these prove a very popular addition to wedding receptions. Also we had a trip south to catch up with family and another spread of sketches from the journey reminded me of my Journaling Workshops which start up again on the 19th September.
On the 19th September and 24th October I am running both the Journaling Workshop and the New Town Perspectives Workshop on the same day so you can join me for the full day and take part in both if you wish. Let me know if you are interested and I will sort out a full day discount. Workshop Page
Watercolours for a watering can
This is the month for really enjoying the garden and on special days we did nothing but potter in the garden. Digging and replanting, pruning, picking fruit as well as sawing, fixing and building small wooden projects. The garden is such a blessing I am so thankful for.
The above sketch is an old watering can come flower pot which is currently full of colour and insect life. A joy to stare at and sketch on a sunny afternoon.
Energy and colour captured at an Indian wedding
Just a few of the favours from a very busy wedding booking I had recently through in Ayrshire. Congratulations to Aysha and Azeed, it was wonderful to meet all your guests and sketch so many of them through the reception.
So much colour and detail it was a long night and I did take some home to finish and send on later as I didn’t want to rush all those wonderful outfits!

First Fringe footsteps through the city
The city is currently looking like the final moments of an interior design show as construction goes up at an alarming rate. I nipped in with the kids for a Meadows picnic and saw the Circus Hub going up.
And then yesterday I had a covering the Greenside Venues launch party in George Square so had a day filled with shows and sketching around the city. The one below is from Bristo Square as I waited for Mrs Sketcher to join me for the Underbelly preview show. Another sketchbook is taking shape and I am enjoying using the double pages of my book to draw wide landscapes.
Lots more sketches from the fringe to come but I will stop there and look forward to catching up with you again at the end of the month. Oh and if you see a show which you think would make a great sketch then do let me know below, thanks. Mark
