This is one of Antony Gormley’s ‘6 Times’ art installation which runs along the Water of Leith from the Modern Art Gallery to Leith docks. I often look over the wall in Stockbridge to see this guy standing in varying depths of water and I love the fact that the full size figures are not only a great piece of art but also a way of measuring the height of the fast flowing river.
To me they signify a peace and calm a stillness where people and nature come together. The calm in the city which is what the Water of Leith and the cycle paths around the city are for me.
I sketched this one from a photo taken on a lovely Sunday walk from Stockbridge to Dean Village. It may be a future WhereArtI so remember it!
Drawing from this angle really captures the reflection well and I fought the urge to add blue to the sky as on the day there was none!
