Kindergarten sketcher

Tonight a commission from a couple of months ago that I forgot to post, a montage of images from a Kindergarten in Australia, whose manager commissioned this illustration for a long term member of staff when they retired.

I created the montage from photographs sent to me and added the children’s hand prints and the nursery logo in the centre. Keeping the sketch in black ink I thought the use of a single colour picked out the children and made the separate images more recognisable from each other.

A possible new client contacted me recently about a similar commission but for a backpacking expedition, with images from their travels made into a montage. A great idea and one that could be adapted to suit any memory.

If you would like piece of art created from your memories or photographs or would like to discuss further then please get in touch on my email address; contact@www.edinburghsketcher.com

Hearts celebrate

Congratulations to Hearts for lifting the Scottish Cup at the weekend, and commiserations to Hibernian who were runners up in the all Edinburgh final at Hampden. Although I missed the celebratory bus tour through Edinburgh on Sunday I thought I should mark the achievement by one of our teams with a sketch. I found a great picture on flickr taken by Stuart Montgomery, HERE is the original photograph.

WhereArtI #014

The famous #WhereArtI sketch quiz is back this morning, after a 2 month absence due to sketcher sickness but all is well now and here is this morning’s puzzler. An easy one to get you back into it I think…

Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site if you make it onto the wherearti? leaderboard, here

A stunning view

It’s hard to believe on a day like today but last week the sun did shine, and we had glorious blue skies above the Firth of Forth.

This is the beautiful view of the Forth Rail Bridge from South Queensferry, a favourite place of ours for a walk along the shore and only 10 minutes away from Edinburgh in the car. And the bridge looks even more splendid since the scaffolding (which was a permanent feature due to constant painting) has come down.

A few facts and figures for you; the overall length of the cantilever bridge is 8296ft, or just over 2.5km and the towers reach 330ft into the blue sky, or 100 metres. Follow this link for more: http://www.forthbridges.org.uk/railbridgefacts.htm

The sketch is black ink with a light watercolour wash over the top.
