Thankyou

Although not totally clear of the woods I feel we can now at least see the way out. This is my ‘thank-you’ sketch of the front of Edinburgh’s Sick Kids Hospital, for everyone who has helped us.

The past couple of weeks has opened my eyes to see just how many kind and good people dedicate their time and money to help make the hospital what it is. Not only the amazing doctors, nurses and surgeons, but also the members of public, some of whom have benefited in the past and are now giving something back.

Like the mother who started itsgoodtogive a small charity who made sure the fridge on the ward was always full for patients and families who hadn’t had time or thought to pick up something from the shops. And the Colours of Islam charity who let all children celebrate in the Eid festivities by giving each child a toy at this time of year.

It’s an ordeal I obviously wish we hadn’t been through but discovering the kindness and generosity that exists in people is incredibly uplifting.

Old and new

I have been spending some time at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children, or Sick Kids recently as my wee boy recovers from a bump to the head (All is going well, thanks). Across the green space that is the meadows there is a cycle and walk way that climbs the hill from the park towards Lauriston Place, through what used to be the Royal Infirmary.

My sketch shows the new development, including a Starbucks, and the old Infirmary buildings on the right which I presume are being developed into flats?

Amazing place

This is the rear entrance to Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh, one that leads out towards the Meadows park. It’s a sight I’d rather not see too many times, but one I am so glad is there.

After a nasty bump to the head my son, James is spending some time with the truly amazing nurses, doctors, anaesthetists and consultants working in the world renowned Edinburgh Hospital for Sick Children, or ‘Sick Kids’.

Now on the road to recovery James will soon be back home with his sister where he belongs, but for now he is the best hands possible, and for that I realise how lucky we are in Edinburgh to have the ‘Sick Kids’.

Muddy festival

Thanks to @EdinSpotlight and #foodiesfestival  for the inspiration for this sketch of one of the tractors at this years Foodies Festival trying to make its way through a field full of mud.

When asked if I had ever sketched mud before I realised I hadn’t, and with the recent weather in Edinburgh there is a lot of it about. Plus I like the image of the tractor in this photo, I thought it would be an interesting challenge.

I drew the line drawing with a fine line pen, adding the colour wash on the Pc after I had scanned the original.
