WhereArtI #017

Morning folks, perhaps a tougher WhereArtI sketch this week – but can you name this weeks location?

This drawing combines the old and the new of Edinburgh architecture, but can you tell me from which ‘walk’ am I sketching?

I’ll add up the scores, plus those from last week and add them to the WhereArtI leaderboard tomorrow. Good luck!

Include hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and remember to keep an eye on my facebook page for clues, if needed throughout the day. Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site from the WhereArtI Leaderboard, HERE

And please remember to RT and forward this on, the more who play the better. Good luck

WhereArtI #016

Monday again, which of course means another WhereArtI sketch – can you name this weeks location?

This watercolour drawing is a beautiful building close to Edinburgh city centre, I’ve left the name off the front of the building but can you name the bar and restaurant on the ground floor?

Include hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and remember to keep an eye on my facebook page for clues, if needed throughout the day. Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site from the WhereArtI Leaderboard, HERE

Two Little Fishies!

Today’s sketch is actually from Sunday when my family and I took a trip out to Dobbies garden centre (Edinburgh) on the  Gilmerton Road. It was the twins, who are now 11 months old, first visit and they enjoyed looking around the aquarium, and seeing the noisy colourful birds and the cuddly looking rabbits.

Although to be honest I think James may of liked dancing to the pianist playing Scottish Ceilidh music even more!

Anyone know what fish these are? I can’t remember 🙂

Where Art I? #007

Morning everyone, here is this weeks #wherearti quiz, can you name the sketch?

This beautiful red sandstone building is not too far from the centre of town, it maybe a tough one but this building has a busy weekend coming up. Extra points if you tell me what that is.

Good luck and remember to check in at the ES facebook page for clues though out the day.

Include hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter. Answers and a new leaderboard this afternoon. From this week we’ll start a top table of WhereArtI? guessers!!  How well do you know Edinburgh?

A sketchy glimpse of the Castle

This is a view from my cycle to work, through two buildings to Edinburgh Castle. The image only lasts for a second or two as you pass over the bridge which spans the Water of Leith river, in St Mark’s Park.

The view is different every day thanks to the wonderful skies we get here in Scotland. Today however the sky is cloudy and dull, creating a slightly hazy skyline. I have added a closeup below.

I only used pencil today, partly because the medium lends itself well to the dull cloudy day, but also because Pencils.com from California have made Edinburgh Sketcher their ‘pencil artist of the week’. Be sure to check out their blog and site for more pencil art and a wide range of sketching materials for sale.  pencils.com  blog @pencils.com

Policebox coffee shop

This coffee takaway at the top of Leith Walk, infront of St Mary’s RC Cathedral, is an old converted policebox, many of which are dotted around Edinburgh.

Perfectly positioned this small box would once of been home to policemen guarding the road up to Edinburgh’s East End. Now it supplies coffee to the city’s many workers.

This is my second policebox sketch, the first from the Royal Mile which you can see here: https://edinburghsketcher.com/?p=538

Colour on the Balmoral

My sketch of The Balmoral looking over the North Bridge, this time coloured with a couple of pencil crayons, and scanned. I have kept two just two hues to keep the image simple, and stylised.

This view shows the rear of The Balmoral hotel, the front opens onto Princes Street. The clocks on the top of hotel all run five minutes fast, thought to be so Edinburgh business men and women don’t miss their trains! I’ve been grateful of those extra five minutes many a time rushing to work.
