WhereArtI #045

Welcome to the Edinburgh Sketcher weekly quiz, every Monday morning I give you a sketch from somewhere in this beautiful city. All you have to tell me is what or where I am sketching… any ideas this week?

Remember to include the hashtag #wherearti with your answers either below, on facebook or twitter and also to keep an eye on the ES facebook page and twitter for clues throughout the day.

Answers to come by this time tomorrow, and although for now the quiz is just for fun the first three correct answers will get a mention plus a link from my site if they make it onto the WhereArtI leaderboard.

For the time being WhereArtI? is just for fun, but if you would like your business to appear in the sketch, sponsor the quiz or supply a prize then please get in touch.

Festive good cheer!

I trust you all had a happy and relaxing day yesterday and now have your feet up after a day battling the crowds for a bargain in the shops 🙂

I however have had a lovely day with the family at home, in fact I don’t think I have left the house for 48 hours apart from a toddle to the local play park with the twins, fully clad in waterproofs to play on the swings.

So today’s sketch is one of this years Christmas cards, one I haven’t posted here before and a scene that perhaps many of you saw today if you were in the city centre. It is the Winter Gardens, currently bringing to life the Princes Street Gardens of Edinburgh, the skate rink in the foreground and the National Gallery and Castle behind.

The cards will continue to be available to purchase online from my shop HERE as they make great wee pieces of art to frame, or perhaps if you want to get a pack early for next year 🙂 £1 from each pack will continue to go to Edinburgh’s Hospital for Sick Children.

Morning Edinburgh, I reckon I’ve got you this time, this is a tough one. I had to look it up myself, I’m in Edinburgh but can you tell me where..?

Sketch a story

This is a commission I recently completed for a couple engaged to be married next year. The sketch tells their personal story – where they met, took their first walk, got engaged to finally where they will hold their wedding reception next year. All in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

By focusing on a few key buildings and areas of Edinburgh the sketch tells a story and highlights favourite city locations.

If you would like to tell your story in an EdinburghSketcher illustration then please get in touch HERE and we can discuss details, and together create a truly original and personal piece of artwork.

Sunrise over Edinburgh

There was a beautiful sunrise over Edinburgh this morning, this view is from my bedroom window looking South over the rooftops. The silhouette of Arthurs Seat and the Crags can be seen in the distance.

With no time to sketch when I woke, I took a snap from my camera and sketched this black ink and watercolour view from the number 8 bus into town.

A little shaky but a great use of my time. The bus is quickly becoming my new office 🙂

WhereArtI #038

Monday morning and another WhereArtI quiz – can you name this wee shop standing in the centre of town? I’ve past it a hundred times although shamefully I don’t think I ever really noticed it until yesterday. Have you?

Christmas cards 2012

Here are my six Christmas cards for 2012, each a hand drawn sketch of Edinburgh in the winter.

Including the simple ‘Merry Christmas’ message inside each A5 card comes with a white envelope. The pack of six different designs costs £4.50 plus pnp direct from my site, or £5 from various places around Edinburgh. I will add places you can buy them below as they become available.

£1 from each pack of cards will go to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children charity; The Sick Kids Friends Foundation. A charity very close to my heart and one that does amazing work every day of the year to make the lives of the children and the families of the children in the hospital a little easier.

To buy a pack of cards direct from my Shop please click HERE.

Helter Christmas card

This is your second glimpse of one of this years Christmas Cards. Being printed as we speak, ‘Helter Skelter’ will be one of six cards in a pack to go on sale from Saturday.

Three will be three watercolour cards like this one and three black and white like ‘Bobby and robin’, which you can see HERE.

They’ll be £3.50 for the pack of six with £1 from each pack going to Sick Kids Childrens Hospital charity; the Sick Kids Friends Foundation.

So how do you like card number two?

WhereArtI #034

Another Monday, and with it another WhereArtI quiz to tickle your head. Can you name this building, the top of which is seen here between a couple of flags? If you can then shout it from the rooftops… or tweet/facebook/message me instead.
